Summary:
The selected research results obtained by the authors allow
drawing a few conclusions on the psychosocial factors underlying
juvenile robbery and suggested preventive and remedial measures.
Aggressive behaviour is an important element of robbery.
Aggression may be a useful tool in the fulfilment of material as
well as other needs; e.g. seeking stimulation and the
achievement of a high position in the hierarchy of a group of
hooligans or criminals. It seems that the main motive for
robbery in the case of juveniles is connected with the kind of
socialization they have experienced.
Despite many years of developing various methods of crime
rehabilitation their effectiveness is considered surprisingly
low. The research results on juvenile robbers conducted by the
authors indicate that underestimating the biological
determinants of crime may be the cause of this state of things.
The rationalization of the juvenile delinquents therapy process
should involve not only increasing the accuracy of the
psychological diagnosis, but above all introducing neurological
diagnosis and possibly psychiatric diagnosis. What is also
important is the individualization of the methods of therapy on
the basis of this complex diagnostic process.
